A Canadian in Shanghai

“I got the job.”

Notice how the sentence ends with a period, and not an exclamation mark. You’d think someone announcing good news would be a lot more excited. Like this!!!

Instead my tone was cautious mixed with not-sure-how-I-feel-about-this.

“Which job?” my boyfriend (at the time) asked.

“The one in Shanghai.”

Let me go back in time and explain how I ended up in this whole Shanghai dilemma.
